Kentucky Wildcats Win

The Kentucky Wildcats won the NCAA National Championship tonight. Being an alum, I was thrilled by this news. But, the fact that I live in Kansas - and they won against the KU Jayhawks - caused some difficulty.

I decided to keep my thoughts to myself until after the game. Over the last couple of days I saw much nastiness on my Facebook wall from Kansas fans directed toward the Kentucky team. I said nothing.

Tonight after the final buzzer I posted a congratulatory note, wanting to share my joy with other Kentucky fans. Some Kansas fans who know I went to UK sent congratulatory notes and nice comments to me, which was great. But, of course, someone had to comment that I should move to Kentucky.

It reminded me why I don't get involved in sports very much - it does not bring out the best in people. I said nothing negative about the Kansas team before, during or after. You don't end up in the final game without being an excellent team, and it's impossible to be an excellent team without fine young men as part of it.

Why can't we all just be nice?

On the upside, I connected with another Kentucky fan. So, there you go.
