Strawberries Ripened on the Vine are Red Inside

This is a strawberry.
It is red inside, not white.

That's because it ripened on the vine.

This is my first official harvest from the garden, I guess.

It's not a huge harvest, admittedly. But it is a tasty one.

Say "no" to white strawberries. They're supposed to be red. And sweet. And juicy. This one was. Yum!

I can almost taste it, just from the picture. Yum! You are right, this is how a strawberry SHOULD look.

YUMMMM! I can almost smell them! What a tasty picture!! I am always a stickler for getting some "local" berries this time of year. They just taste worlds better, in my opinion! When I was growing up, my grandmother used to regale me with tales of her childhood, when Newton County (MO) was, in her words, "The Strawberry Capital of the World." She and her siblings would pick berries & take them to the railroad yard to be loaded on a boxcar. Can you imagine being surrounded by boxcars full of strawberries? To my five-year-old self (and actually, to my forty-one-year-old self, for that matter!) it sounded like heaven on earth!!!

It's hard to take a bad picture when the subject is so good. :)

They smell amazing!

Unfortuantely, today when I went to pick them some critter had helped himself to a couple of them. I'm sorry but I don't want to share. I only have three little plants. Obviously, I need more. :)
