Taxes, taxes and more taxes

I'm always inspired to do taxes on about January 8. Of course, I have none of the materials then. By the time they arrive a few weeks later I have lost all interest in the process.

Unfortunately, here on April 17, the day they are due, none of that desire has yet returned. I have been buried in getting my taxes done. I'm almost there.

I have decided I hate doing taxes far more than paying taxes. I don't even really mind paying my share. But I sure don't like the paperwork of preparing them. I think I need to find a nice friendly accountant, although I suppose I would still need to have everything organized. And it's that process that is so difficult.

Oh well... I suppose I will manage.

I know what you mean... Taxes are way too complicated, especially for freelancers.

Ugh.

Complicated, intrusive and obfuscated. It takes a CPA. But a few years ago, someone (I forget who) called the IRS three times with the same question. And got three entirely different answers.

Next year is the 100th anniversary of the federal income tax. We've come a long way, baby. Find the 1913 tax form and make the comparison.

Yes, there seems to be no one who actually knows what is and is not appropriate for freelancers. So, I err on the side of not taking any deductions I think are questionable. I'm probably missing things, but it's all I know to do. I do them online with taxact, although I would hire a CPA if I knew one who dealt with creative work as opposed to making widgets. It's all very confusing - and I'd love a one sheet form again!.. But, they're done... and I'm glad! :)
